MENNETOU-SUR-CHER

About

Charming medieval town surrounded by 13th-century ramparts. Located on the banks of the Cher River, this little town has preserved from its defensive past three lovely round archery towers and three square towers with gateways. The little streets have picturesque names and are lined with lovely houses, some twisted, made of stone with cob and half-timbered walls from the 14th and 16th centuries. Placed under the protection of St Urbain, the church (11th, 13th and 16th centuries) has a lovely square chancel from the 13th century in Angevin Gothic style. The old seigneurial château next to the south gate has become a townhouse. In front of the south gate of the fortified wall, on the Cher, is one of the rare 19th preserved drawbridge. Free visit of the village all year.
