HISTORY AND ARCHITECTURE

Elegance and Heritage of the Chateau of Cheverny

A MEDIEVAL STRONGHOLD

The chateau's history begins in the 14th century with Jean Hurault's acquisition of a modest residence at the gates of Sologne. It wasn't until 1510 that the château was transformed into a formidable fortress, defended by towers, turrets, and a drawbridge.

A TIMELESS CULTURAL SITE

Since the 16th century, the Chateau of Cheverny has been owned by the Hurault de Vibraye family, who have served several French kings over the centuries.

A FASCINATING ARCHITECTURAL MASTERPIECE

The Chateau of Cheverny proudly stands in a classical style emblematic of its era. Its remarkable structure subtly combines brick and Bourré stone, a distinctive stone from the southern Loire, giving it a dazzling white appearance.

The pavilion-style layout of the chateau, inspired by the Louis XIII style, imparts a timeless elegance. The undeniable charm of this chateau lies in its perfect blend of architectural art and popular culture.

DID YOU KNOW?

A King's Bedroom, Without a King

Like many chateaux of the Loire Valley, the Chateau of Cheverny has a King's bedroom, except that no king ever slept in it… surprising, isn't it? However, the 15th-century four-poster bed did indeed host the royal slumber of Henry IV during a visit to the old château.

The English Park and the Six Gardens of Cheverny

With its vast lawns stretching like a sea of greenery, the 20-hectare English park is a true haven of peace. You can admire remarkable trees, some of which are centuries old!

The six gardens, each different yet harmoniously integrated, bring a touch of romance, exoticism, or indulgence. Let yourself be enchanted by the bright flowers, intoxicating scents, and vibrant colours that enliven these exceptional places.
